Cathy Watson is an environmentalist and systems changer who has written/broadcast for The Guardian, Reuters, BBC and other outlets and was made an Ashoka Fellow for her work in Uganda setting up two large and enduring NGOs, Straight Talk Foundation and Mvule Trust. The first reached over 25,000 schools and broadcast in 17 languages at the height of the HIV epidemic. The second has supported more than 3400 young people in education and was The Guardian's Christmas Charity in 2009. She is currently Chief of Partnerships at World Agroforestry and the Centre for International Forestry Research, bodies which harness the benefits of trees to address the climate, nutrition, biodiversity and land degradation crises. In Nairobi, she is investing in urban green space and restoring road verges with indigenous trees.
